In the name of ”simplifying ” labour laws, the Central Government’s four new Labour Codes have fundamentally weakened the rights and protections that India’s workers earned over decades of struggle. Instead of expanding empowerment, these Codes dilute existing safeguards, undermine collective bargaining, and create wider avenues for exploitation. The shift clearly reflects a policy orientation that privileges capital-intensive interests over the dignity, security, and constitutional guarantees of the workforce. This is far more than a routine legislative debate ~it is a decisive test of India’s commitment to social justice, constitutional morality, and inclusive economic growth. A framework that sidelines labour rights in favour of concentrated corporate power is neither democratically sustainable nor acceptable to a nation whose economic foundation rests upon millions of workers.
